Johnson Celebrates Recreational Trail Grants Coming to Perry County
COLUMBUS – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources recently announced that two projects in Perry County received grants as part of their Recreational Trails Program.
The news is welcomed by State Representative Mark Johnson (R-Chillicothe), who represents the areas receiving funding.
“I am fortunate enough to represent some incredible parks and trails,” Johnson said. “Any time we see funding make its way back to improve those areas is a major win for the community.”
The “Camp Ohio” trail network from northern trailheads at the village of New Straitsville to southern trailheads at Monday Creek and Dorr Run at Wayne National Forest will receive $150,000 to assist with 35 miles of thread maintenance.
Perry State Forest, along with three other state forests, will receive $100,000 for their APV (All-Purpose Vehicle) areas. The project includes routine maintenance that occurs annually in order to improve the function of these areas.
The RTP grant program, which reimburses up to 80 percent of a project’s funding, creates and maintains trails, improve access for people with disabilities, and provide education about trail safety and the environment.
