Rep. Humphrey Celebrates C.R.O.W.N. Act Passage in the House
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Latyna Humphrey (D-Columbus) today announced the passage of House Bill (HB) 178, the C.R.O.W.N (Create a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair) Act, legislation that makes hair discrimination illegal in Ohio.
“Everyone should feel comfortable in the workplace regardless of race or hair type. It is important to ensure that every workplace promotes inclusivity and provides a positive work environment for all,” said Rep. Humphrey.
The C.R.O.W.N Act creates protections against discrimination against individuals because of race-based traits such as hair texture and protective hairstyles, in schools, employment, places of public accommodation, housing, and credit practices. Additionally, HB 178 provides victims of hair discrimination the right to sue the assailant.
The bill now heads to the Senate for further consideration.
