Latyna M. Humphrey Biography

Representative Latyna M. Humphrey, a Columbus native, proudly represents Ohio’s 2nd House District. With a wealth of experience and unwavering commitment, she has dedicated her career to public service. Humphrey’s educational journey began at Columbus East High School, followed by Columbus State Community College. She pursued her post-baccalaureate studies in applied psychology at Franklin University before embarking on her public service career.
As a single mother and two-time published author, Representative Humphrey has gained national recognition for her advocacy work and speaking engagements at institutions such as Columbia University, Brooklyn College and Ohio State University. Her legislative priorities include criminal justice reform, workforce development, housing, and childcare.
Beyond her legislative efforts, Representative Humphrey is deeply engaged in her community. She organizes numerous events, including resource fairs and panel discussions, collaborating with city officials, organizations, and national artists to bring valuable resources and programming to the district.
During her tenure, Representative Humphrey has emerged as a leading voice within the Democratic caucus, championing legislation that directly impacts her constituents. She works closely with local officials and community partners to organize impactful events and secure funding for district initiatives.
In the past year, Representative Humphrey was honored with both the Meryl H. Shumaker Legislator of the Year Award and the Next Up Columbus Award. She also made history in the 135th General Assembly by passing seven pieces of legislation into Ohio law, including HB 50—the first law in Ohio to remove Collateral sanctions related to housing for those who have been justice involved.
