Rep. Humphrey Brings Back $1.7 Million to Ohio House District 2
COLUMBUS - State Rep. Latyna M. Humphrey (D-Columbus) today announced the successful return of $1.7M in funding for House District 2, marking a significant investment in transformative community projects in HD2. This funding is part of House Bill (HB) 2, the state’s biennial capital budget, recently passed by both the Ohio House of Representatives and Senate.
The $6.2B state capital budget includes $3.51 billion in traditional capital funds and a $1.98B appropriation for ongoing projects, along with an additional $700M in state funds designated for transformative community initiatives. These additional funds have been made available thanks to federal relief dollars that supplemented the state’s balance sheet during the most recent state operating budget.
“I am proud to announce that we have secured $1.7 million specifically for House District 2," said Rep. Humphrey. "This funding will support a variety of critical projects aimed at enhancing our community, promoting economic opportunity, and improving the quality of life for our residents."
The $1.7M will be allocated to several key projects within House District 2, including:
- $500K to Vista Village: Supporting the development of affordable housing and community services.
- $500K to Community New Direction: Funding programs focused on youth development and community engagement.
- $500K to Mid-Ohio Food Collective Eastland Prosperity Center : Funding the development of Food Bank in the Eastland Area.
- $600K to additional community initiatives: Investing in local infrastructure and public safety programs.
Additionally, HB 2 includes significant statewide funding for various state entities:
- $600M for K-12 school classroom facility projects overseen by the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission.
- $575M for the Public Works Commission to issue grants and loans to local governments for infrastructure projects.
- $415.7M for state-supported higher education institutions to support construction and renovation projects at public universities and community colleges.
“ I am committed to ensuring that Ohio remains a place where our residents can live, work, and thrive," said Rep. Humphrey. "This funding for House District 2 represents a major step forward in our efforts to uplift and promote prosperity across our community."
HB 2 now awaits the governor’s signature.
