COLUMBUS - State Rep. Latyna M. Humphrey (D-Columbus) today issued a statement following the Franklin County Grand Jury indictment of Columbus police officer Ricky Anderson, who played a role in the murder of 20-year-old Donovan Lewis last year.

"While Friday's indictment marks a positive stride toward justice for Donovan Lewis, an indictment is just a beginning step in the process," stated Rep. Humphrey. "Our hope is for a comprehensive, equitable, and transparent procedure that not only leads to a conviction, but also provides solace for the family, friends, and community of Donovan Lewis."

In August 2022, Donovan Lewis tragically lost his life during the execution of a warrant. Body camera footage depicts Lewis lying in bed when Anderson enters the bedroom and immediately discharges his weapon.

Upon further investigation, it was determined that Lewis was unarmed and exhibited no aggression towards the police officer. The only item discovered at the scene was a vape pen.

Anderson is scheduled to be arraigned Monday, August 7th.
