COLUMBUS – State Rep. Tavia Galonski (D-Akron) today issued a statement after meeting with Attorney General Dave Yost and other Akron-area elected officials to discuss the ongoing criminal investigation into the fatal shooting of Jayland Walker by Akron Police Department following a traffic stop on June 27.

“It is important for constituents to know what the process will be in the investigation of the tragic killing of Jayland Walker,” said Rep. Galonski. “During my conversation with Attorney General Yost yesterday, I made it very clear that the people of Akron demand an independent, fair and transparent process in this investigation. I was assured that this will be the case, and my office will continue to stay in contact with the Attorney General about this investigation.”

Due to the number of discharged bullets and number of APD officers involved in the shooting, the Attorney General anticipates that the investigation, led by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), will take over 400 hours of work.

Any individuals who may have information related to the investigation into the shooting of Jayland Walker can contact BCI by calling 855-BCI-OHIO (855-224-6446) or by filing a tip on the Attorney General’s website.
