Rep. Miller Highlights the Official Start of Ohio's Fall Hunting Season on September 1st
State Representative Kevin Miller (R-Newark) is pleased to share that the month of September officially marks the beginning of Ohio’s fall hunting season.
The Ohio 2025 hunting season opening dates are as follows:

- Squirrel (fox, red, and gray)
- Dove
- Rail (Virginia and sora)
- Snipe
- Gallinule
Saturday, September 6, 2025
- Early Canada goose (through Sunday, September 14)
- Early teal (blue-winged and green winged; through Sunday, September 14)
Saturday, September 27, 2025
- Deer Archery
Expanded Hunting Privileges on Private Land
Rep. Miller also championed a provision in the recently passed State Operating Budget that expands hunting and trapping opportunities for families on their own property.
The measure allows a resident landowner's parents to hunt and trap on the landowner's property without obtaining a hunting license, deer permit, wild turkey permit, or fur taker permit. It also allows a resident landowner's grandchildren under 18 to hunt and trap on the landowner's property without obtaining a deer permit, wild turkey permit, or fur taker permit.
“This provision ensures the tradition of hunting on family land is passed on to younger generations without financial barriers. In addition, it ensures our older family members can continue to enjoy the outdoors free of charge, even after passing their land onto their children,” said Miller.
Lowering the Age for Discounted Hunting & Fishing Licenses
Additionally, House Bill 64 – legislation sponsored by members of the Ohio House Majority Caucus – lowers the age to 65 for Ohioans to qualify for senior discounts on hunting, fishing, and other sportsmen licenses. The bill takes effect on September 30th, just intime for deer hunting season.
