Representative Pizzulli Supports Bill to Eliminate Quotas for Law Enforcement

COLUMBUS—State Representative Justin Pizzulli (R-Scioto County) is pleased to announce that the Ohio House of Representatives passed House Bill 131, bipartisan legislation to prohibit law enforcement agencies from using quotas for arrests and citations.

The measure aims to shift the culture in Ohio to prioritize the quality of police work over the quantity of tickets written, building positive relationships between community members and their law enforcement officers. Under current law, it is legal to mandate that an officer issue a certain number of tickets each day. 

“This common sense, bipartisan legislation will set our law enforcement officers up for success as they work to protect our communities,” said Pizzulli. “Quotas put unnecessary burdens on our officers that take away from quality police work and positive community relations.”

The legislation received support from the law enforcement community and civil justice reform advocates. 

House Bill 131 awaits consideration from the Ohio Senate.
