Rep. Pizzulli Highlights the Official Start of Ohio's Fall Hunting Season

State Representative Justin Pizzulli (R-Scioto County) is pleased to share that the month of September officially marks the beginning of Ohio’s fall hunting season.

“Hunting season is a proud southern Ohio tradition that brings families together, strengthens our connection to the outdoors, and supports conservation in our state,” said Rep. Pizzulli.

The Ohio 2025 hunting season opening dates are as follows:

Monday, September 1, 2025

  • Squirrel (fox, red, and gray)
  • Dove
  • Rail (Virginia and sora)
  • Snipe
  • Gallinule

Saturday, September 6, 2025

  • Early Canada goose (through Sunday, September 14)
  • Early teal (blue-winged and green winged; through Sunday, September 14)

Saturday, September 27, 2025

  • Deer Archery

Additionally, House Bill 64 – legislation championed by members of the Ohio House Majority Caucus – lowers the age to 65 for Ohioans to qualify for senior discounts on hunting, fishing, and other sportsmen licenses. The bill takes effect on September 30th, just in time for deer hunting season.
