This National Transgender Day of Visibility, Rep. Juanita Brent calls for action on the Ohio Fairness Act to protect LGBTQ+ Ohioans
COLUMBUS—Today, State Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) recognizes National Transgender Day of Visibility and encourages support for the Ohio Fairness Act, which would protect LGBTQ+ Ohioans from discrimination in employment, housing and accommodations on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.
“2021 was the deadliest year on record for transgender people in America, particularly for Black transgender individuals. It is vital that a better data system is developed in order to track these types of crimes,” said Rep. Brent. “The Ohio Fairness Act, which I co-sponsored, needs to be passed into law to help ensure that acts of violence and discrimination against transgender people are prohibited.”
HB 208, the Ohio Fairness Act, has not yet received a first hearing in the House Commerce and Labor Committee.
