State Rep. Brent releases statement on treatment of Haitian migrants at the U.S. and Mexico border
COLUMBUS—State Representative Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) released a statement today after video was released which appeared to show U.S. Customs and Border agents on horseback using whips on Haitian migrants coming into the U.S. from Mexico.
“The United States of America is a county full of immigrants who came here in a multitude of ways and for a variety of reasons,” said Rep. Brent. “The recent videos and pictures of the treatment of Haitians seeking asylum in the U.S. was inhumane and disgusting to view. With the recent Sept. 2021 earthquake that made the majority of Haiti unlivable, the U.S. needs to provide Haitians Temporary Protective Status in their greatest time of need.”
The incident is currently being investigated by the U.S. Border Patrol.
