Republicans Prioritize Censorship, Discrimination Over Freedoms, Economic Growth with SB 1's Passage

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Juanita O. Brent (D-Cleveland) today responded to the House passage of Senate Bill (SB) 1, the Higher Education Destruction Act:

“SB 1 was never about bettering higher education It was about protecting White privilege,” said Rep. Brent. “Privilege is prohibiting scholarship opportunities for qualified students who do not look like you. Privilege is gutting diversity in our schools because learning about anyone outside your own makes you uncomfortable. Privilege is banning collective bargaining but saying it protects the students…This is White privilege.”

In trying to solve problems that do not exist, SB 1 creates new issues that will increase costs, stifle growth, and prevent Ohio’s young adults from reaching their full potential.
