Rep. Juanita O. Brent Celebrates Black Maternal Health Week
COLUMBUS- State Rep. Juanita O. Brent (D-Cleveland) celebrates Black Maternal Health Week. This April 11-17, we celebrate the importance of listening and addressing the voices of Black women and their experiences.
“Ohio is not doing enough to keep our Black mothers alive,” said Rep. Brent. “Statistics reveal the consequential health disparities, but critical legislation to allow doulas to be covered by Medicaid has still not become law. Ohio’s inaction is costing lives, as the majority of Ohio’s pregnancy-related deaths were preventable. The fight for reproductive and birth justice is not only about protecting Black women, but the future of Ohio.”
The Black Maternal Health Week theme is “Our Bodies Belong to Us: Restoring Black Autonomy and Joy.”
