COLUMBUS – State Rep. Juanita O. Brent (D-Cleveland) today condemned Senate Bill (SB) 293, calling it a voter suppression bill being rushed through the legislative process to silence everyday Ohioans.
“This bill suppresses the vote of the people,” said Rep. Brent. “You should always expect a full committee process - expert testimony, public hearings, and adequate time for communities to respond. Instead, Senate Bill 293 is being rushed through the committee process because it can't face real scrutiny.”
SB 293 will:
- Punish voter for mail delays that they cannot control;
- Keep strict limits on who can help return ballots; and
- Add heavy paperwork burdens on already under-resourced county boards.
