Rep. Brent releases statement on Ohio Supreme Court ruling to reject state legislature maps
COLUMBUS- State Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) issued a statement today following the Supreme Court’s ruling that the legislative maps for the Ohio House and Senate must be redrawn. The Court ruled that the 2021 state legislative maps violated the anti-gerrymandering provision included in a state constitutional amendment passed in 2015.
“The Supreme Court ruling is a step toward bringing justice to the real intent of constitutional change in redistricting,” said Rep. Brent. “These maps lack bipartisanship, transparency and do not represent the voices of the millions of Ohioans who voted for fair maps.”
The Ohio Redistricting Commission will now have 10 days to redraw the maps, which will then be reviewed by the court
