COLUMBUS – State Rep. Juanita O. Brent (D-Cleveland) released the following statement regarding the sentencing in the Ahmaud Arbery case. Travis McMichael, Gregory McMichael and William Bryan were all sentenced to life in prison for their roles in the murder of Ahmaud Arbery in February 2020.
“No one should live in fear of running while Black,” said Rep. Brent. “The justice system might have sentenced the three killers to life in prison, but the only true justice would be bringing Ahmaud back to life. Racism continues to be a dark cloud that is entrenched in the foundation of our country. It’s vital that ‘implicit bias,’ cultural competency and diversity, equity and inclusion programs be taught from childhood through adulthood.”
