Rep. Brent issues statement on second anniversary of George Floyd's murder
CLEVELAND – State Representative and President of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus, Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland), issued a statement today regarding the second anniversary of the murder of George Floyd. On May 25th, 2020, George Floyd was arrested on the suspicion that he had used a counterfeit bill to make a purchase. A Minneapolis police officer proceeded to kneel on his neck for over seven minutes while George told them that he could not breathe, resulting in his unjust death. This incident, just one of many, exposed the racist patterns found in police departments and sparked protests across the country.
“Let the legacy of George Floyd’s murder continue to be the movement for police reform,” said Rep. Brent. “It only took seven minutes for George Floyd to be murdered, so let us now be swift to make police reform a priority.”
