Rep. Brent Issues Statement Following Governor's Press Conference
COLUMBUS— State Representative Juanita O. Brent (D-Cleveland) issued a statement today following Gov. Mike DeWine’s evening press conference to Ohio as the state continues to see an alarming increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases. The governor encouraged Ohioans to take necessary action to minimize the spread of the virus.
“I was expecting a different response from Governor DeWine’s press conference yesterday evening. Face masks need to be mandated and not merely a suggestion. Ohio needs to implement multiple changes if we want to eliminate COVID-19 and protect those who are most at risk. Our state needs to provide free face masks for at-risk communities, hand hygiene needs to be enforced in public settings and COVID-19 testing needs to be more accessible. We additionally need to focus on improving the unemployment application process and making internet an accessible utility. These changes will help improve public health and the quality of life for Ohioans,” says Rep. Brent.
In concluding his statewide address, Gov. DeWine implored listeners to wear face coverings, engage in social distancing, and limit public gatherings to protect not only their loved ones, but all citizens.
