Rep. Brent Calls for State, Federal Leaders to Restore Full SNAP Benefits

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Juanita O. Brent (D-Cleveland) Thursday announced that hundreds of thousands of Ohio families have begun to receive their partial November SNAP benefits. Currently, the maximum amount each household can receive this month has been reduced by 35%.
“No half measures. Families deserve full access to the resources they rely on,” said Rep. Brent. “No child should go to bed hungry, and no parent should have to choose between paying bills and buying groceries. Now is the time for state and federal leaders to prioritize our families and immediately restore full SNAP benefits. Families should not be punished for politics.”
The ODJFS bulletin reports that approximately 364,000 Ohio households—just over half of the 716,000 households normally receiving SNAP benefits—have begun receiving partial benefits prior to the shutdown, about 1.4 million Ohioans received about $264 million monthly in SNAP benefits; this month’s reduction puts many already-struggling households at risk of missing meals.
