State Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) today announced the release of $141,061.13 in state funding to contract with IAP Government Services Group for the Cuyahoga Hills Juvenile Correctional Facility Welding Vocational Program project.

“When talking about the Ohio Promise and being able to work hard to get ahead, we often forget or overlook the people who are locked away,” said Rep. Brent. “However, this program will allow the youth in my district to obtain vocational job skills in welding so when they leave CHJCF, it won’t be empty-handed.”

IAP Government Services Group will provide project management for the installation of a 490 volt transformer for electricity, landscaping and a concrete pad to support a vocational welding trailer provided by Stark State Community College. The welding program will provide college courses to youth committed to the Department of Youth Services. Graduates of the program will attain job skills and necessary credit hours for a welding certification.

The funds were approved at Monday’s meeting of Ohio’s Controlling Board, a bipartisan panel tasked with overseeing state spending.
