COLUMBUS – State Rep. Joe Miller (D-Amherst) today announced that he will soon be introducing a bill to designate a portion of State Route (SR) 6 as the “Officer Phillip Wagner Memorial Highway.” Lorain Police Officer Phillip Wagner was tragically killed in the line of duty on Thursday, July 24th, 2025 after being ambushed while eating lunch with another Lorain police officer.

“I was deeply saddened to learn about Officer Wagner’s tragic passing. I join the country in mourning for our fallen hero,” said Rep. Miller. “Renaming this portion of SR 6 is an initial step in honoring Officer Phillip Wagner’s sacrifice in the line of duty in a long journey to recovery for his fellow officers, the greater Lorain community, and most importantly, his loved ones.”

Officer Wagner was a combat veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served two tours, including one in Afghanistan. He went on to serve as an officer in the Sheffield Village Police Department for four years, and then as an officer of the Lorain Police Department for four years.

Officer Wagner is leaving behind his wife of ten years, three children, his mother, brother and sister, sister-in-law, and nephew. Phillip will be truly missed by all in the community, most of all by his loving family.

Rep. Miller is proud to work with the Lorain Police Department, Mayor Jack Bradley and the city of Lorain to prepare this honor to officer Wagner and his family. He will be introducing the bill in the coming days.
