COLUMBUS – State Rep. Joe Miller (D-Amherst) today announced the passage of House Bill (HB) 44 and House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 6 out of the Ohio House of Representatives.

HB 44 grants police departments in statutory cities the power to laterally transfer qualified candidates to fill vacant positions, aligning them with charter cities. Additionally, HB 44 would allow police chiefs to conduct cadet training schools that align with Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy Standards. HCR 6 supports the work of the Ohio Commission for the U.S. Semiquincentennial, which celebrates the nation’s 250th anniversary.

“HB 44 provides tools and a pathway for police departments to better serve their residents by increasing the recruitment, retention and quality of law enforcement,” said Rep. Miller. “HCR 6 is an opportunity to put a spotlight on Ohio’s contribution to this great nation and the Semiquincentennial celebrations.

Rep. Joe Miller currently sits on the Ohio History Connection and the America 250-Ohio Commission.
