COLUMBUS – Legislation to increase breast cancer screening accessibility and early detection to patients is moving forward in the Ohio Senate. House Bill 371, a bi-partisan bill sponsored by State Representatives Jean Schmidt (R-Loveland) and Sedrick Denson (D-Cincinnati), received its second hearing in the Senate Health Committee on Wednesday.

The committee received nearly 30 proponent testimony submissions for the bill. Schmidt also noted the in-person support from Dr. Annie Brown, Assistant Professor of Radiology at the University Of Cincinnati Barrett Cancer Center, Sherry Hughes, former Meteorologist for WCPO9 in Cincinnati and breast cancer survivor, and Michele Young, breast cancer survivor and a personal friend of Schmidt’s.

“I'm so thankful to all of the brave women and men coming forward to share their stories and help us move this important piece of legislation forward,” said Schmidt. “I’d also like to thank Senator Terry Johnson for supporting our progress in the Senate, and I look forward seeing this bill signed into law soon.”

H.B. 371 now awaits additional hearings in the Senate Health Committee. For more information on the bill, please click here.
