COLUMBUS—The Ohio House of Representatives today voted to override Governor DeWine’s recent veto of House Bill 68, announced State Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Loveland).

Schmidt issued the following statement regarding the vote:

"Today, I voted to protect our children and female student athletes by overriding the Governor’s veto of House Bill 68, a combination of the Save Adolescents from Experimentation Act (SAFE) and the Save Women’s Sports Act.

I strongly believe that children should go through puberty before any gender-affirming drug or surgery is done. I also believe we have a responsibility to protect the integrity of women’s sports by ensuring that our female athletes do not compete against men.

I applaud my colleagues for acting swiftly to ensure this critical legislation becomes law in Ohio.”

The veto override now heads to the Ohio Senate for consideration.
