Schmidt Introduces Legislation to Combat Rising Property Taxes
COLUMBUS—State Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Loveland) recently introduced House Bill 402 in response to rising property taxes in many Ohio counties.
This legislation will temporarily freeze property taxes at 2022 levels to give the Joint Committee on Property Tax Reform time to find long-term solutions to the property tax issues throughout Ohio.
“I am committed to ensuring Ohioans are able to remain and age in their homes,” said Schmidt. “This legislation aims to alleviate the inflated tax burdens that our citizens are facing.”
The Joint Committee on Property Tax Review and Reform was established under the state’s main operating budget, which was passed last year. The Committee is tasked with reviewing Ohio's property tax system and making recommendations regarding property tax to the General Assembly.
House Bill 402 awaits a House committee assignment.
