Schmidt Comments on Leaked Supreme Court of the United States Opinion

May 3, 2022
Jean Schmidt News

COLUMBUS - The following statement can be attributed to State Representative Jean Schmidt (R-Loveland). Schmidt is the sponsor of House Bill 598, the Human Life Protection Act, which would ban abortion in Ohio when Roe v. Wade is overturned:

“Like many in my community and across America, I remain hopeful and optimistic as we await the United States Supreme Court’s decision. I have fought for the unborn my entire life and pray for a favorable ruling.

“Reports that a decision is imminent underscores the importance of passing House Bill 598, the Human Life Protection Act.

“In Ohio alone, nearly 21,000 unborn children are killed every year. This must stop. We can and must do more to protect the lives of the unborn.

“Thirteen states have passed legislation similar to House Bill 598 and another seven have pre-Roe bans still in place. Ohio’s time has come. We must pass the Human Life Protection Act.

“I must also say this: Regardless of our views on this issue, the alleged leak of a draft court decision is something all Americans should find deeply disconcerting. It blatantly disregards the court’s confidentiality and undermines the integrity of this important institution.”
