Rep. Abrams Applauds Local Schools Recognized as Science of Reading Champions

COLUMBUS—State Representative Cindy Abrams (R-Harrison) is pleased to announce that two elementary schools located in the 29th House District were recently recognized by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce as 2026 Science of Reading Champions.
The awards were distributed based on schools’ commitment to the Science of Reading to improve student engagement and literacy outcomes. The 2026 Science of Reading Champions from the 29th House District include:
- Mt. Healthy Early Learning Center (Cincinnati, Ohio)
- Mt. Healthy North Elementary School (Cincinnati, Ohio)
Abrams recently attended a Mt. Healthy Board of Education meeting, where she presented a commendation to the schools, celebrating and recognizing the educators whose work made this accomplishment possible.
“Early literacy is critical to the development and success of our children,” said Abrams. “I’m proud to recognize Mt. Healthy for this accomplishment.”
The Science of Reading is a method used to teach students how to read by focusing on how to sound out and understand words.
In total, 109 schools throughout the state received the 2026 Governor’s Science of Reading Champions Award.
