COLUMBUS –State Representative Jean Schmidt (R-Loveland) has released the following statement on Breast Cancer Awareness Month:

“October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. I want to remind every woman that they should schedule their next breast exam. If they have not, do so now. HB 371 is now law in Ohio and allows any woman to have a yearly breast exam. It also allows women to have more comprehensive screenings, such as tomosynthesis, or a 3D mammogram, and may be eligible for supplemental screenings, such as MRIs and ultrasounds when a woman has dense breast tissue.

Doctors will no longer have to fight insurance companies to give women the care they need. We know that early detection works and annual exams can be lifesaving to women.”

Schmidt has made breast cancer awareness and prevention a priority throughout her tenure. Her most recent push with her joint sponsor State Representative Sedrick Denson (D-Cincinnati) began in September of 2021, and went into effect September 23, 2022.
