Speaker Stephens Announces $32 Million for Jackson County
COLUMBUS, OH—Ohio House Speaker Jason Stephens (R-Kitts Hill) today announced that $32 million has been awarded to Jackson County for the construction of a new county jail. The funds are being awarded through the Ohio Jail Safety and Security Program.
“Ever since I was elected as a county commissioner, I have been fighting for the state to invest in local jail construction,” said Stephens. “These investments are long overdue and will go a long way to upgrade the facilities and improve conditions for guards, employees, and those incarcerated. I will continue to be a strong voice for building jails that serve our communities and keep our people safe.”
The Ohio Jail Safety and Security Program, which launched in 2021 in collaboration with the General Assembly, helps local communities with functionally obsolete and structurally failing jails.
