Ohio House Passes License Plate Omnibus Bill
COLUMBUS – Today, the Ohio House passed HB 232 as part of an omnibus package included in SB 163 announced Representative Jamie Callender (R-Concord). HB 232 would create a Historic and Patriotic Education license plate to support the educational and conservation work conducted of the Ohio Society, Sons of the American Revolution (SAR).
Founded 19 days prior to the creation of the National Society, Sons of the American Revolution, the Ohio Society, Sons of the American Revolution has 23 local chapters and close to 2,000 members dedicated to supporting education, preserving Revolutionary War history, and encouraging patriotism in future generations. Revenue from this license plate will go towards supporting these efforts.
Currently, in Ohio, 303 Special Interest Plates support organizations ranging from local school districts to the ALS Foundation and Playhouse Square. Special Interest Plates support their sponsoring organization through a contribution paid when the license plate is renewed. These contributions range from $0 to $35.
“The Sons of the American Revolution do critical conservation work to preserve the history of our nation’s founding,” said Callender. “This license plate will not only support their ongoing efforts but provide an opportunity for members to proudly display their ties to our nations founders”.
“I would like to thank the Ohio House of Representatives for supporting HB 232,” said Mark Tyler, President of the Northeastern Ohio Chapter of the SAR. “Funding generated from this program will bring increased awareness to the Sons of the American Revolution. It will further promote our mission, which is to honor our Revolutionary War Patriot Ancestors by promoting patriotism, serving our communities, and educating and inspiring future generations about the founding principles of our Country.”
"The Ohio SAR is very excited to be one step closer to our license plate becoming a reality,” said Steve Kaplan, Ohio SAR President. “We are thankful to Representative Callender and all the members of the Ohio House of Representatives that voted for passage of House Bill 232. We look forward to supporting and advertising the patriotic, educational, and historical work of the SAR."
SB 163 now awaits concurrence from the Ohio Senate.
