COLUMBUS – The Ohio House or Representatives yesterday unanimously passed House Bill 380, an omnibus package of 29 road naming bills. Included in the bill is House Bill 350, legislation to dedicate State Route 44 between Mentor Avenue and Prouty Road the “Lance Corporal Austin B. Schwenk Memorial Highway,” announced State Representatives Jamie Callender (R-Concord) and Daniel Troy (D-Wickliffe). Callender and Troy were joined by members of LCpl Schwenk’s family for the vote.

Lance Corporal Austin B. Schwenk was killed in October 2023 at Camp Lejeune where he served as a 2171, electro-optical ordinance repairer with the 2nd battalion, 6th Marine division. LCpl Schwenk graduated from Riverside Highschool in 2022 and is remembered as an avid athlete, lover of cars, and someone who always dreamed of joining the United States Marine Corps.

“With today’s vote, we are one step closer to honoring the memory of a great Ohioan and proud American,” said Callender. “I look forward to joining the LCpl. Schwenk’s family for a floor vote in the Ohio Senate.”

“I am pleased that the General Assembly supported this effort by Rep. Callender and myself to honor the memory of Lance Corporal Schwenk for his service to our nation so tragically cut short,” said Representative Troy.

House Bill 380 now heads to the Ohio Senate for consideration.
