Lakeland Community College Receives Funding for Engineering Building Project

COLUMBUS—The State of Ohio Controlling Board today approved the transfer of funding for Lakeland Community College to support the College’s workforce development efforts, announced State Rep. Jamie Callender (R-Concord). Funding for this project is part of a $5.6 million investment made in Lake County’s career tech and performing arts centers as part of HB 687 (134th General Assembly).

The College will receive $3 million in additional funding for its Engineering Building Project from existing funds allocated to the College. The Engineering Building Project aims to renovate the schools current 35,089 square feet of industrial and advanced manufacturing space and add an additional 14,484 square feet of lab and instructional space. In addition to the state’s investment, $4.2 million in federal and $3.1 million in local matching funds will be used to complete this project.

“Lakeland is tremendously grateful for the State’s capital investment, which will allow us to prepare more students with the up-to-date training and skills needed to support local manufacturers and Ohio’s workforce development,” said Lakeland President Morris W. Beverage Jr.

“Lakeland Community College’s engineering building is used to train up the future of Ohio’s workforce and support Lake County businesses,” said Callender. “This funding will help ensure students graduate with the skills necessary to meet in demand jobs across the region and continue the tradition of manufacturing in Northeast Ohio.”

With the approval of this transfer, Lakeland Community College will reduce its reliance on local revenues and limit the debt service required to bring this project to completion while continuing to support career tech and advanced manufacturing in Lake County.
