COLUMBUS—The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Parks and Watercraft recently awarded the Lake County Sherriff’s Office a Marine Patrol Assistance Grant, announced State Representative Jamie Callender (R-Concord).

The Sherriff’s Office will receive $33,609.27 to continue the operation and maintenance of the Marine Patrol, which consists of deputies that patrol the waters of Lake Erie alongside Lake County.

“The Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol consists of specially trained deputies that patrol the waters of Lake Erie adjacent to Lake County. The Marine Patrol provides border security, Emergency Medical Response, Dive Services for Fire and Police Incidents, Assist United States Coast Guard, Law Enforcement on the waterways in Lake County, Drug and Contraband Interdiction, as well as Search and Rescue for missing boaters.” Said Lake County Sheriff Frank Leonbruno. “With such support we can continue to make sure that Lake County is the best place on the north shore to raise a family, build a business, and build a home.”

Lake County is home to Chagrin and Grant River estuaries as well as the Mentor Harbor, Fairport Harbor and 31 miles of Lake Erie shorelines.

“Our lakefront and rivers play a key role in making Lake County the best place in Ohio to work and live,” said Callender. “This funding shall ensure that Lake County continues to be able to offer safety and peace of mind to the thousands of families who every year enjoy boating, fishing, and swimming off our shores.”

The Division awarded just under $580,000 to fund 24 marine patrol programs around the state of Ohio.
