Callender Calls for First House Committee Meeting as Legislature Reconvenes
The Finance Committee will be the first House Committee to convene since the legislative chamber was last in session in March amid the stay-at-home orders due to the coronavirus outbreak. State Rep. Jamie Callender (R-Concord) called for the committee to meet upon its return to the Statehouse.
“Meeting this first week means we can get back to business and help move Ohio forward in the reopening process,” said Callender. “It’s important that as the state begins to reopen, we do all that we can to complete the process as quickly as safety allows.”
Ohio has begun to reopen its economy with the following segments allowed to resume:
- May 1: Non-emergency medical procedures
- May 4: Manufacturing, construction, and general offices
- May 12: Retailers
An order is not yet set for opening up restaurants, bars, and various salons. However, statements from the Governor indicate that working groups are creating guidance to allow them to open as quickly as possible.
The Finance Committee will meet Tuesday, May 5 at 10:30 a.m. to hear House Bill 388, which addresses the issue of out-of-network health care.
“Countless hours of behind-the-scenes work have taken place to help us progress to where we are,” said Callender. “I’m excited for the Legislature to resume normal operations to help get Ohio back on track and back to work.”
