Callender Announces Major Development for Mentor Erosion Project

COLUMBUS – State Representative Jamie Callender (R-Concord)  announced the Ohio Department of Natural Resources has released $500,000 in funding Wednesday for the Mentor Erosion Project. 

The money is part of $3.5 million in state funds allocated to rebuild the partial collapse of a wall in the Mentor Harbor Channel in September. The wall lines the channels and allows for boats to easily enter and exit the lagoons and harbor. It is well past its life expectancy for a channel wall.

“Mentor Harbor continues to be one of the lynchpins of public access to our lakefront,” said Callender. “Repairs like this will ensure that Lake County continues to be one of the premier destinations along the Great Lakes to not only fish and sail but put down roots.”

The funds will be used to reinforce the channel walls with armor stone to prevent future collapses from erosion.
