Rep. White, Hoops Introduce Legislation Designating EMS Week in May
COLUMBUS – This week, State Representatives Erika White (D-Springfield Township) and Jim Hoops (R-Napoleon) introduced House Bill 311, legislation to designate the third full week of May as Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week in Ohio.
The bill works to recognize the vital contributions of EMS professionals, including paramedics, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), dispatchers, and other first responders who serve as a critical lifeline during emergencies.
“These brave men and women are the unsung heroes of our communities, responding swiftly to crises and saving countless lives every day,” said White. “I am honored to sponsor this legislation to bring attention to them and to support these important services.”
The week-long celebration would not only work to spotlight the diverse roles within the EMS field, but also emphasize the essential services they provide during emergencies and everyday healthcare situations.
“Our EMS personnel are highly trained professionals who work tirelessly to respond to urgent medical needs and protect public health,” said Hoops. “Designating an entire week to honor their service is an important step in recognizing the depth of their contributions to our communities.”
The legislation awaits a committee assignment.
