Over $300,000 Assigned to BGSU for Workforce Based Training and Equipment Distribution
State Rep. Haraz N. Ghanbari (R-Perrysburg) supported legislation creating a measure approved by the State Controlling Board on Monday providing $304,033 for workforce based training and equipment for distribution by Bowling Green State University.
“Providing funding to enhance the practice and skills of our future workforce is critical so individuals are able to be competitive and fill jobs of the future here in Wood County or elsewhere within our state,” Ghanbari said.
BGSU was awarded the grant to purchase equipment for instructional needs. The purpose of the workforce based training and equipment project is to support education and skill training of students and workers to meet the current and future talent needs of growing, emerging high-demand industries through investments in capital equipment and facilities.
BGSU is acting as the fiscal agent for two private educational institutions - Ohio Northern University and Tiffin University. The disbursement distributions include the following:
- BGSU - $150,767
- Ohio Northern University - $55,517
- Tiffin University - $97,749
The RAPIDS grant will allow BGSU to train Ohio workers in the region with increased skill and technical capabilities. This request will fund the purchase of stationary additive manufacturing equipment for the Center for Advanced Manufacturing in the robotics and mechatronics fields.
The next State Controlling Board meeting is scheduled for Feb. 27.
