COLUMBUS – State Rep. Haraz Haraz N. Ghanbari (R-Perrysburg) was appointed Chair of the Small Business Committee by Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives Matt Huffman Tuesday during a press conference at the Ohio Statehouse. The 136th General Assembly commenced Jan. 6 with representatives taking their respective oaths of office.

"Small businesses play a very vital role in the success of our communities and our economy,” said Ghanbari. “I am honored by Speaker Huffman’s trust in appointing me to lead this new House committee, and I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues to evaluate legislation that supports and strengthens our small businesses."

Ohio is home to approximately one million small businesses. Ghanbari will head the nine-member committee in supporting this critical sector of the state’s economy and the hardworking women and men who run it.

“Many of the smaller businesses across the state don’t have direct access to the resources that larger corporations do,” said Huffman. “That’s why I’m happy to appoint Representative Ghanbari as chair of the Small Businesses Committee to lead the charge in finding ways to assist our small business community, which is an important part of the state’s economy.”

In addition to chairing the Small Business Committee, Ghanbari was appointed to the Public Safety, Veterans and Military Development, and Arts, Athletics & Tourism committees.

Ghanbari, the owner of a veteran-owned small business, is serving his third elected term after first being appointed to the Ohio Legislature in 2019. He previously served as chair of the Homeland Security Committee during the 135th General Assembly, and chair of the Armed Services and Veterans Affairs Committee during the 134th General Assembly.
