COLUMBUS — State Rep. Erika White (D-Springfield Township) today urges residents to remain calm and follow Toledo Fire and Rescue Guidance following a hazmat situation which occurred in North Toledo late in the evening of October 20th.

“The hazardous material release that is unfolding in North Toledo this morning is deeply troubling, but residents should remain calm and follow emergency guidance to protect themselves and their families,” said Rep. White. “As emergency personnel have recommended, if you live within three miles of the site, shelter-in-place and stay indoors with the windows closed. Additionally, if you begin to feel unwell, contact your medical provider immediately."

Rep. White also commends the rapid response from emergency services who were able to evaluate the situation and implement evacuation guidance overnight. She also applauds additional city services and community organizations who have helped support the community, including TARTA and the Red Cross for providing temporary shelter.

“Thanks to the quick action and hard work of local emergency services, clear guidance was provided which has led to an evacuation of residents who live within one mile of the site,” continued Rep. White. “While the investigation into this event is just beginning, I encourage clear and direct communication between investigators and the community to answer questions and alleviate fears so we can move ahead together.”
