Rep. White: Issue 2 Will Support Job Creation, Helps Local Communities
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Erika White (D-Springfield Township) today released the following statement concerning Issue 2’s resounding passage by Ohio’s voters:
“The passage of Issue 2 is a victory for my constituents and for Ohioans from all across this state. It secures necessary funding for critical infrastructure projects and creates jobs for Ohioans and Ohio families. Issue 2 is built into the state budget ensuring that Ohio taxpayers won’t face any tax increases while at the same time relieving local governments of the burden of raising taxes for necessary projects like bridges, wastewater treatments and other projects. This is a huge step forward for our communities,” said Rep. White.
With Issue 2's approval, the State Capital Improvement Program will create tens of thousands of jobs and issue general obligation bonds up to $250 million annually, an increase from the current $200 million per year. Issue 2 will also help local governments with critical infrastructure projects. Ohioans first voted for the program as a lawmaker-backed constitutional amendment in 1987 and have since renewed it four times.
