COLUMBUS — State Rep. Erika White (D-Springfield Township) Thursday applauded the signing of the bipartisan companion bill to House Bill (HB) 204 which was sponsored by Reps.  White and Melanie Miller (R-Ashland). Senate Bill 17 designates March 9th as 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion Day in Ohio.

“Today we have not re-written history but restored the footsteps that the 855 women of the 6888th Battalion, led by Ohioan Lieutenant Colonel Charity Adams, have left as an indelible path for all women. ¿Designating March 9th to honor these trailblazing women and their impact on American history in the state of Ohio is a victory for the state, and for women,” said¿Rep. White.

For decades, the service of the 6888th Battalion was not fully reflected in official historical recognition. The designation of March 9th serves to restore the historical record and formally recognize their contributions as equal to all other forms of military service.

“Honoring the 6888th Battalion strengthens Ohio’s legacy of service,” added Rep. White. “It reminds us that when we recognize every contribution with equal respect, we build a more honest history and a stronger future for those who will serve next.”

By establishing this day of recognition, Ohio affirms that service is honored based on dedication and impact, regardless of role, race, or gender. This action ensures that the legacy of the 6888th Battalion is preserved as part of Ohio history and recognized for generations to come.
