Reps. Jarrells, Seitz Pass Foster-to-College Scholarship Act, Encourage Ohio Senate to Act on Bipartisan Bill
COLUMBUS - State Reps. Dontavius Jarrells (D-Columbus) and Bill Seitz (R- Cincinnati) today proudly announce the overwhelming passage of House Bill (HB) 164, the Foster-to College Scholarship Act, in the House of Representatives today.
“I am delighted to announce that HB 164 has passed the House, marking the next step for Ohio in providing foster youth with the support they deserve to pursue their higher education aspirations,” said Rep. Jarrells.
According to national data, Ohio is in the bottom 10% of states in the nation for foster children when it comes to the following: the likelihood of graduating from high school or getting a GED, likelihood of obtaining employment, likelihood of being enrolled in school, and likelihood of being incarcerated or having a criminal record.
“The impact of this bill cannot be understated,” continued Rep. Jarrells. “Providing this opportunity for our young people, especially those who come from a foster care background, will be a monumental support for these kids’ futures. I cannot wait to see how many lives will be impacted by this legislation.”
HB 164 will now head to the Senate for consideration.
