Rep. Jarrells Warns Voters of Political Maneuvering After Passage of HB 1 & 2 in Special Session

COLUMBUS - State Rep. Dontavius Jarrells (D-Columbus) today released the following statement regarding the passage of House Bill 1, in conjunction with House Bill 2, during yesterday’s Special Session in the Ohio House of Representatives: 

“To the voters of Ohio, don’t be fooled. Yesterday’s special session was not about getting a presidential candidate on the ballot, it was about stopping one of the most powerful democratic tools afforded to the citizens of our state,” said Rep. Jarrells. “House Bill 2 is only a temporary fix, contingent upon an assault on voter ballot initiatives. It is a product of a political landscape where power is chosen over people. This bill is tainted by the very tactics we, as legislators, should be fighting against. I ask the voters to consider what type of Ohio they want to live in, because in November, they will likely have the chance to decide.”
