Rep. Jarrells Sworn in Again as State Representative, Assistant Minority Leader for 136th General Assembly
COLUMBUS – State Representative Dontavius Jarrells (D-Columbus) Monday was officially sworn in to serve another term representing Ohio’s 1st House District and has once again earned the support of his colleagues to continue as House Assistant Minority Leader.
“I am deeply honored to be sworn in for my junior term as a state representative and to continue serving as Assistant Minority Leader for the 136th General Assembly,” said Rep. Jarrells. “My love for people has driven every bill I’ve introduced, every constituent I’ve fought for, and every relationship I’ve built—across party lines and beyond political differences. Ohioans deserve a government that doesn’t just speak of progress but delivers on it.”
In the last General Assembly, Rep. Jarrells introduced 17 bills and resolutions, passed eight bills through the House, and saw six signed into law—legislation aimed at creating real change in the lives of working families, students, and communities across Ohio. In addition, he co-sponsored 135 bills, reinforcing his commitment to bipartisan solutions that uplift all Ohioans.
“Our policies must reflect our values. A state that truly loves its people proves it—not just in words, but through action, opportunity, and justice,” said Rep. Jarrells. “That’s why last year, we secured $93.8 million for House District 1 and $183.1 million for Franklin County—funding that directly improves schools, infrastructure, and essential services for Ohioans.”
As the 136th General Assembly begins, Rep. Jarrells remains steadfast in his mission: to love people enough to fight for them. He pledges to continue advocating for equitable policies, economic opportunity, and a government that serves all Ohioans—not just the privileged few.
