COLUMBUS - State Rep. Dontavius L. Jarrells (D-Columbus) today expressed his deepest sorrow upon the discovery of 5-year-old Darnell Taylor's body, marking a tragic end to the extensive search initiated by a statewide Amber Alert last week.

“It is with a heavy heart that we learn of the loss of young Darnell Taylor. This tragedy has not only shaken our community but has also reminded us of the vulnerabilities and responsibilities we share in protecting our children,” said Rep. Jarrells.

The Columbus Police Department, led by Chief Elaine Bryant, alongside the dedicated efforts of law enforcement across Franklin County, worked tirelessly in the search for Darnell. The discovery of his body in a sewage drain near Columbus underscores the grim realities of the dangers our children face.

The arrest of the suspect, Pammy Maye, who was Darnell's foster mother, brings a significant development in the investigation. Maye, now in custody, faces charges of kidnapping and endangerment, with additional charges pending. This swift action reflects our law enforcement's commitment to justice and their unwavering resolve to pursue accountability.

“As we mourn Darnell's untimely departure, let us come together as a community to support one another and strengthen our resolve to protect the innocent and vulnerable among us. We extend our deepest condolences to Darnell's family and all who loved him. In his memory, we will continue to fight for a future where every child is safe, cherished, and valued,” added Rep. Jarrells.

The office of Rep. Jarrells is in close contact with local authorities and community leaders to address the broader implications of this tragedy and to reinforce efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of every child in our community.
