Rep. Jarrells Announces $914K to Renovate Rhodes Hall and Over $62K to Upgrade Technology Equipment at Columbus State Community College

COLUMBUS - State Rep. Dontavius Jarrells (D-Columbus) announces that the Controlling Board has approved $914K in funding for Columbus Community College. The funds will be used to renovate Rhodes Hall which houses the college’s Office of the Registrar, Payroll Office, and business offices. Columbus-owned and operated Rockwood Builders Ltd. has been selected to spearhead the renovation.

“The renovation initiative aims to modernize Rhodes Hall to better serve the needs of students, faculty, and staff. A multitude of factors impact a student's academic success including environment. It is important to continue to modernize our institutions to ensure our students are physically comfortable which directly translates to academic success,” said Rep. Jarrells.

The Controlling Board has approved $62K in funding to ensure students have access to Smart Classroom technology. The technology upgrade will provide students with state-of-the-art computers, interactive displays, etc. Convergint Technologies LLC has been selected to modernize the technological resources at Columbus Community College.

“I am very pleased with the approval of these funds for Columbus State Community College,” said Rep. Jarrells. “Investing in advanced technology demonstrates our commitment to higher education by equipping students with the tools they will need to thrive academically and in today’s digital landscape.”

Some other items approved by the Controlling Board include:

  • $91M for planned renovations to the Ohio Expo Center & State Fairgrounds, including new buildings and underground infrastructure work.
  • $792K for Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities to provide medical assessment services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • $1.2M under Dept of Children & Youth for Cribs for Kids to combat infant mortality.
