Ohio Democratic lawmakers express frustration over resolution
Ohio Democratic lawmakers are frustrated over the resolution that passed the Ohio legislature aiming to make it harder to amend Ohio’s constitution.
Although it was not the outcome State Rep. Dontavius Jarrells, D-Columbus, wanted to see, he believes Ohioans will vote no in August.
“I am so proud of every single Ohioans who came to the Statehouse, took off work, to voice their opinions in the people’s house,” he said.
Jarrells explained that the resolution also changes the process for collecting signatures for a ballot amendment. Signatures will be needed in all 88 counties instead of 44.
“When we’re thinking about the context in which we are trying to change the constitution it really is about taking away the people’s voice to be at the table,” he said.
Jarrells said this is not the right direction for Ohio. He hopes every Ohioan comes out to vote no on the issue, but he has concerns about low voter turnout due to the August special election.
