COLUMBUS – State Representative Bob Young (R-Green) and Darrell Kick (R- Loudonville) announced today that Substitute House Bill 321 will be heading to Governor DeWine after a concurrence vote by the Ohio House today.

The goal of this legislation is to make necessary updates to the licensing process for becoming an auctioneer in Ohio. Current law is outdated and in need of modernization.

“Ohio will soon be a more welcoming state for those in the auctioneering business providing needed updates to current practices improving the process of entering and sustaining a career as an auctioneer,” said Kick.

Currently, to become an auctioneer in Ohio you must complete the apprenticeship requirements required under law. House Bill 321 will remove those apprenticeship requirements and includes provisions that all auctioneers must complete an eight-hour training course every two years coinciding with their license renewal.

“As an auctioneer myself it is encouraging to see the Ohio House Agriculture and Conservation committee recognize the need for this simple yet effective bill that will provide necessary and common-sense improvements to the process of becoming a licensed auctioneer in Ohio,” added Young. “I am pleased to see this bill moving to the Governor.”

House Bill 321 will now head to the Governor for his signature.
