Reps. Householder and Kick introduce Legislation to Extend Hunting and Fishing Rights of Disabled Vets

COLUMBUS—State Representatives Larry Householder (R-Glenford) and Darrell Kick (R-Loudonville) introduced legislation today to update Ohio’s hunting and fishing laws.

The legislation, House Bill 272, makes two changes. Currently, Ohioans who are veterans with a total disability are awarded a hunting a fishing license free of charge. The legislation extends this to partially disabled veterans as well.

“There are many veterans who have suffered serious injuries protecting our freedom,” said Kick. “This legislation is about respect for them and their service to our country.”

The other change contained in HB 272 allows all grandchildren to hunt and fish on their grandparents’ property. Under current law, a grandchild is allowed to hunt on the property of his or her grandparent without a license up to the age of 18. House Bill 272 eliminates this arbitrary age limit.

“Hunting and fishing are family activities,” said Householder. “They should be enjoyed without government intrusion.”
