Reps. Troy, Callender Thank Gov. DeWine for Declaring State of Emergency in Northeast Ohio Counties
COLUMBUS — State Reps. Daniel Troy (D-Willowick) and Jamie Callender (R-Concord) this week thanked Governor DeWine for declaring a state of emergency in Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, and Lake Counties in response to significant lake-effect snow accumulations and predictions of more severe weather later this week.
“My thanks to Governor DeWine for formally declaring a state of emergency. The State of Ohio has already deployed resources, but this declaration readies state agencies to help immediately in the coming days and gives our communities the opportunity to apply for reimbursement of already committed expenditures,” said Rep. Troy.
Since heavy snowfall began last week, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has been actively clearing snow from state and local roadways across the region. To support the hardest-hit areas, ODOT redeployed staff and heavy equipment from neighboring counties that experienced less snowfall, assisting local crews in maintaining access to major streets and hospitals. Additionally, the Ohio State Highway Patrol increased staffing to address crashes on state roads and provided additional support to local law enforcement for traffic incidents on local roads.
“Thank you to Governor DeWine for recognizing the urgent need in Northeast Ohio and for making all possible resources available to residents and communities as we continue to dig out from under this snowfall,” said Rep. Callender. “I also want to extend a thank you to the mayors, trustees, and city managers, especially Fairport Harbor Mayor Tim Manross, who have worked tirelessly to support the road crews who are ensuring emergency services continue to function during this historic storm.”
